Midget auto racing returns to the Lonsdale Sports Arena next Wednesday night when more than 35 cars of the AAA will participate in the opening night’s program.
The Lonsdale oval will operate this season under the auspices of the American Midget Track Owners Association, an affiliate of the AAA and will be a member of the New England “Big Seven,” which also includes the Fall River Speedway, Manchester, N.H., Motordrome; Norwood, Mass. Arena; Westboro, Mass. Stadium; Pines Speedway at Groveland, Mass. and the West Peabody Speedway.
Lonsdale will operate every Wednesday night during the summer months.
Improvements at Lonsdale during the past month have transformed the local speedway into an even safer and more attractive plant. A 12-foot strip has been added all round the inside of the track, cutting down the circumference from one-third of a mile to about one-fourth of a mille which will make for more thrilling action for the midgets. The width of the track is now 72-feet on the banked curves and 57-feet on the straight-aways.
The Lonsdale management has announced that children below high school age will be admitted free of charge to all midget racing programs if they are accompanied by a parent.
